The mile of C&O Canal that runs through D.C.'s Georgetown neighborhood is among the city's most unique historic assets. Yet it is in an increasingly dire state of disrepair. With the canal nearing its bicentennial (it was created by an act of Congress in 1825), the MakeDC team has examined its past and the potential it holds.

In 2013, we worked with the Georgetown BID on the creation of its 2028 Action Plan, helping the organization envision ways of reviving the canal space through new programming, installations, and pop-up activities.

Now, we are part of the team, led by James Corner Field Operations, a top urban design and landscape architecture firm, that is working on a master plan for the canal for the nonprofit Georgetown Heritage. Learn more here.
